Cluster map and topology

Visualize resource ownership, service relationships and live Istio traffic when available.

Structure and traffic views

The Cluster Map shows resource relationships as a graph. The logical view emphasizes the Ingress → Service → workload path, while the detailed view helps examine structural relationships between resources.

  • Narrow the map with namespace and view controls.
  • Follow relationships to the components behind an application.
  • See traffic volume and error rates on connections when the required metrics are available.

Trace a request path

  1. Select the target cluster and application namespace.
  2. Follow Ingress and Service relationships in the logical view.
  3. Open the related workload to inspect ready Pods and resource state.
  4. If traffic overlays are available, correlate connections with elevated error rates with logs and events.

Requirements for live traffic

Structural topology and measured network traffic are different data sources. The live traffic overlay depends on suitable Istio metrics in Prometheus. Even when Istio is detected, the overlay is unavailable without Prometheus access or istio_requests_total data.

A structural edge does not by itself prove requests are currently flowing. Check the traffic availability message and the selected time context.
