Kubernetes management

Workloads and applications

Follow Pods, Deployments, StatefulSets and other workloads from status checks to corrective action.

Workload views

Battani provides separate resource pages for Pods, Deployments, ReplicaSets, StatefulSets, DaemonSets, Jobs and CronJobs. The Applications view presents Deployments with an application-oriented perspective. Namespace and search filters help you focus on the affected resources.

  • Inspect resource status, replica counts and related Pods.
  • View YAML and edit supported resources with the required permission.
  • Scale Deployments, ReplicaSets and StatefulSets; restart DaemonSets.
  • Inspect and manage Deployment resource requests/limits and HPA/VPA settings.

Investigate an application that will not start

  1. Select the correct cluster and namespace, then locate the Deployment.
  2. Compare desired and ready replicas and open the affected Pod.
  3. Narrow the cause using events, describe details and container logs.
  4. With the required permission, adjust resource settings or YAML and check Pod status again.

Effects of a change

Scaling and YAML changes apply directly to the selected Kubernetes resource. Deleting a controller-managed Pod may cause the controller to create a replacement; inspect its owning workload for a lasting change.

Autoscaling requires the relevant controller and metrics infrastructure in the cluster. Having an HPA or VPA screen does not install those components automatically.
